WCAD 2 – Wolseley – 20 April 2013
The 2nd Race of the 2013 WCAD Series took place near Wolseley. With 50km short course and 100km long course options, it was a great intro for many novice Adventure Racers and an awesome day of in the mountains for all.
The start and finish was hosted by Rustic Venues in the Witzenburg Game Reserve. A major highlight of the race was a 30m waterfall abseil. Long course competitors were treated to some truly majestic views as the cycled through the Suurvlak plantation on top of the mountains.

WCAD 1 – Drakenstein Adventure Race
The first leg of the 2013 WCAD series of Adventure Races, which took place on 2 March in Franschhoek. All races in the Western Cape ADventure Series offer a 50km and 100km distance option involving navigation whilst trail running/trekking, mountain biking and usually a paddle leg and ropework of sorts.
WCAD 1 Drakenstein was organized by Steve Burnett. It started and finished at the Groot Drakenstein Games Club and involved a 5km micro-nav on surrounding farms, followed by a MTB leg to a transition at Mont Rochelle. Teams then completed a trekking loop before returning back to the start/finish on their bikes.

WCAD 5 Theewaterskloof Dam (65/120km) Adventure Race
The 5th and final race of the 2012 WCAD Series took place at Theewaterskloof Dam on 10 November 2012. The Adventure Race had short (65km) and long (120km) course options involving paddling, mtb and trail running.
Competitors were treated to perfect weather and a great day out!!!
The long course was won by Tarryn Povey and Evan Price who also took 1st and 2nd respectively in the overall series standings and short course honors went to Tim Deane and Nienke Van Schaik.

Just for fun, we caught the train from Claremont out to Kalk Bay and ran back along the top of the mountains. Cape Town is a beautiful place to live and we should all take more advantage of our pristine surroundings!

WCAD Racing AR Team Promo
An Introduction to Cape Town-based Adventure Racing Team: WCAD Racing. The team always try to capture their race experiences on video to share with the world.
The team has been racing together under various names since 2006; in 2011 they became team WCAD racing, with the start of the WCAD Series. They started this series of adventure races as a way of sharing their love for AR with other like-minded South Africans. These one day races form the perfect introduction to adventure racing and are a platform from which to progress to longer multiday expedition races such; as the 250km Quantum Leap and 500km Expedition Africa.

Quantum Leap 2012: Capestorm WCAD Racing
The inaugural Quantum Leap 250km Adventure Race as experienced by team Capestorm WCAD Racing. This event was hosted by Ugene Nel of Quantum Adventures on 22-25 August 2012 in the Oorlogskloof area 300km North of Cape Town, South Africa. The 250km race course was extremely challenging in terms of navigation and terrain and tested everyone who took part.
Unfortunately Team Capestorm WCAD Racing had to withdraw from the race during the final MTB leg after a harrowing ordeal on top of the mountain in a storm left Chris Fisher with Pneumonia. The team will be back next year to finish what they started!!!
Thanks to Ugene and his team for staging such an Epic event. The course was hugely researched and treated competitors to some incredible scenery and historical Khoi San site alike, not forgetting an awesome rafting leg on the Doring River.
The race was won by Merrell Adventure Addicts in 63h13m.

Merrell Adventure Sprint Race- Gravity Festival 2012
The Merrell Adventure Sprint Race took place on 18 August 2012 at the Gravity Adventure Festival. This Adventure Race required teams of two to navigate their way through 30km of trail running, mountain biking and white water rafting. It was a great day out and an awesome introduction to AR for many.

WCAD Series 4 Palmiet Adventure Race
The 4th Leg of the WCAD Series took place in the Kleinmond/Palmiet region on 28 July 2012. There was a short (60km) and long (100km) course option to test all who took part. Highlights from the race included an awesome whitewater rafting leg down the Palmiet River, Hiking parts of the breathtaking Oudebosch hiking trail, a MTB rally stage and beautiful riding through the Kogelberg Nature Reserve.
The short course was won by “The A-team” consisting of husband and wife combo; Richard and Annalize Thomas, who have now secured two victories in as many races. The long course spoils went to Graham Bird and Yolande Devilliers of team “Merrell Adventure Addicts” who also beat all male pairs taking part.

WCAD Series 3: Grabouw AR
The 3rd leg of the 2012 WCAD Series took place in the beautiful Grabouw Valley on 2 June 2012. With 50 and 100km course options, all competitors were tested with challenging navigation through the undulating landscape but the breathtaking scenery made the challenge worth while! Thanks to Glenbrae, Mofam, Buttonquail, Macdaddy’s and all the farms involved for your hospitality! Special thanks to The Rust brothers for all their hard work and local knowledge! Hope to see you all at the next race on 28 July 2012 in Kleinmond.
